The film about Enzo Ferrari debuts in Brazilian cinemas

Ferrari, a biopic about Italian entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari, will be released in Brazilian cinemas this Thursday (22). The film shows how the tycoon, played by Adam Driver (Star Wars), changed the history of the automobile and was extremely important in the creation of Formula 1 racing. It also marks the return of director Michael Mann (Collateral, Fire against fire), 81 years old.

The screenplay is inspired by the book Ferrari: the man behind the machines, written by Brock Yates. The book tells the whole story of the tycoon, but the screenwriter Troy Kennedy Martin, at the request of Mann, focused on 1957. This year the businessman faced the possible bankruptcy of his car factory, the death of his son Dino (which occurred in 1956) and turbulence in his relationship with his wife Laura (Penélope Cruz) and his lover Lina Lardi (Shailene Woodley).

Ferrari in criticism

The Enzo Ferrari biopic arrives this Thursday to Brazilian audiences, but the media has already seen the film. For the newspaper The globefor example, Mann “provides impeccable work in the direction, managing to capture different shades and layers of the businessman’s personality.”

For the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, Ferrari triumphs by showing the tragedy of the tycoon. Furthermore, the newspaper names the businessman the best character in a Michael Mann film. This is because the director’s films show a man (sometimes more than one) who seeks his destiny, comes to a crossroads (out of necessity or passion) and needs to find his way.

The newspaper Mail highlighted how Mann, in telling his stories, remains attentive to the dramatic issues involving his characters. In the case of Ferrari it is no different, despite being a film focused on the automotive universe with many (exciting) racing scenes, according to the newspaper.
