In fact, Kelly, one of cinema’s greatest musical actors, stars alongside Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. The plot tells the story of the transition from silent to sound cinema through three actors.
Also chosen for preservation in the National Film Registry, the film shaped global popular culture and is recognized for the unforgettable scene of Kelly singing and dancing in the rain.

This classic directed by Vincente Minnelli, one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema, famous for having directed several successful musicals. The opera has a strong cast: Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Oscar Levant, Georges Guétary and Nina Foch.
The film follows a former American soldier (Kelly) who tries his luck as a painter in Paris. However, things get complicated when he and his friend, also a pianist trying to make it (Levant), fall in love with a shop assistant (Caron).
A commercial success and critically acclaimed, the film won 6 Oscars, including Best Picture, and is also preserved in the National Film Registry.

An unconventional musical, “The Umbrellas of Love” is a French production directed by the famous Jacques Demy. Its difference lies in its unique approach: every line of the film is completely sung, without any spoken dialogue.
Furthermore, the work won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and is known for its bright colors.
The plot revolves around the love story between a young umbrella seller (Catherine Deneuve) and a mechanic (Nino Castelnuovo). Their lives are interrupted when the man is called to serve in the army during the Algerian War.

An independent musical that pays homage to the science fiction and horror B-movies produced in the middle of the last century, ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ was not well received by critics upon its release.
However, over the years, the film has gained a huge cult following, with many avid fans around the world. Today the film is very prestigious and is also preserved by the National Film Registry.
In the story, a couple’s car breaks down during a storm and the two are forced to seek refuge in a strange, isolated castle. There they meet a mad scientist who is conducting unusual experiments. The cast includes Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon.

Frank Oz directed this feature film based on the off-Broadway musical of the same name, which was in turn inspired by the 1960 film directed by the maestro Roger Corman (which is not a musical). Well received by audiences and critics, the film stars Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia and Steve Martin.
In the story, a clumsy florist (Moranis) discovers a strange plant that feeds on human flesh and blood. The plant saves the flower shop financially by attracting customers, however the florist now has to find more corpses to feed it.

Bob Fosse was a famous actor, choreographer, dancer and film and theater director. His most acclaimed film work is “All That Jazz”, considered by many critics to be a masterpiece. The film is another on this list preserved in the National Film Registry.
The film is a semi-autobiographical fantasy work that portrays Fosse’s career. In the plot, his alter ego is played by actor Roy Scheider.
The story follows a womanizing director and choreographer who leads a life full of excess and addiction. However, when he suffers a heart attack, fantasies, illusions and death become intertwined in her reality and in his life.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, this film is the second film adaptation of the 1957 musical of the same name. Critics greeted the film with success, but it was a box office failure.
In the main roles we have Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler and the cast also includes Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist and Rita Moreno.
Inspired by “Romeo and Juliet,” the film follows the struggles of two gangs of ethnically diverse teenagers in New York and a forbidden love story between two people on opposite sides.
