Netflix will launch a documentary miniseries to show the details of one of Brazil’s saddest tragedies: the fire at Ninho do Urubu, Flamengo’s training center, which killed 10 young players. Titled the production will consist of three episodes and, according to UOL, should contain unpublished images, as well as testimonies from fathers and mothers, journalists and football professionals.
Turning five years old in 2024, the massive fire struck Flamengo’s accommodation, where the boys slept, during the early hours of the morning. According to experts, the fire started due to problems with the air conditioning system and spread rapidly due to electrical negligence on site and highly flammable cladding.
The notes led to debates and trials over the site’s security. All survivors received compensation from Flamengo. The families of the dead also reached an agreement. Among those accused of the tragedy are former Flamengo officials, managers of the container supplier and the employee responsible for maintenance of the refrigerator.
The first hearing in the case was held in August last year, four years after the tragedy. To date no one has been held responsible. According to information from Lance!, the next hearing should take place in March (the month in which the series airs).
