This is a series you probably don’t know about because it only lasted for three short seasons, airing on American channel Spike TV. Blue Mountain State follows three first-year students at the university of the same name who must quickly adjust to their new lives and juggle football, girls, classes, and the fate reserved for the first years.
The cast includes lesser known names at the time such as Chris Romano, Sam Jones (seen in Smallville), Darrin Brooks and Alan Ritchson. The latter did not yet have the career he has today. After becoming known to the general public by participating in the show American Idol, the young man began his acting career. This is even his first regular role on television.

Prime video on the front line
Will Ritchson’s recent success as the star of Reacher convince the show’s producers to resurrect the Blue Mountain State from its ashes? According to the deadlineThe project is apparently on the table and the three main actors are set to return.
Currently, we don’t know which channel or streaming platform will win the rights, but Amazon Prime Video has the upper hand in the ballpark, which also offers original series in its catalog. According to the American media, the Blue Mountain State would capture a completely new audience in the catalog, to the point of becoming a “cult” in the US. In France, the series aired on MTV and quickly fell into obscurity.
A sequel, in the form of a film and called Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, was released in 201 thanks to a crowdfunding campaign (fans fund the project in exchange for a gift). It will eventually be released on Netflix in some countries. It can be seen here on Prime Video.
