Comedian and “Hold the Wave” actor Richard Lewis has died at age 76

Comedian Richard Lewis, who became known for his neurotic, self-deprecating humor and starred for more than a decade alongside Larry David on the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, has died at 76, his adviser said Wednesday.

The comedian, who last year revealed he suffered from Parkinson’s disease, died Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles after a heart attack, publicist Jeff Abraham said.

“His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for their love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Abraham said in a statement.

Born in Brooklyn, Lewis began performing stand-up comedy in the early 1970s, while still working in advertising, and by the end of the decade he was at the forefront of his generation of comedians.

In the 1980s, she was a regular on late-night talk shows and was one of the stars of the ABC comedy “Anything But Love” alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. You acted in several films in the 1990s, mainly in “The Story of Robin Hood.”

In his later years, he was best known for playing a version of himself as Larry’s friend David in “Hold the Wave,” in which the two fought tirelessly.
