Oh my god! here we go again The summer musical Mamma Mia! Will he have the honor of a third film?
While Mamma Mia! Here we go again with the sequel and prequel to Phyllida Lloyd’s 2008 film, which will be broadcast tonight on TF1 Séries Films. We analyze a possible third opus of the saga inspired by the hit musical.
In 2008, Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Kristin Baranski, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters and Dominic Cooper sang the song for the film adaptation of the hit musical Mamma Mia!.
Based on ABBA’s hits, the musical was created in 1999 by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, both members of the Swedish band. With more than 65 million viewers worldwide, the musical is a real success.
Good luck on stage and on the big screen
10 years after its inception, the director of the show, Phyllida Lloydgoes behind the camera to make an adaptation that is considered either “terribly kitsch” (according to TéléCinéObs) or “an antidote to darkness” (according to 20 minutes).
Oh my god!
The action of the feature film takes place in 1999 on the beautiful (fictional) Greek island of Kalokairi. Donna (Streep) runs a hotel, her daughter Sophie (Seyfried) and her fiance Skye (Cooper) are getting ready to get married there. Sophie nervously posts three invitations to three very different men, one of whom is her father. Three men from three corners of the earth prepare to return to the island – and to the woman – who bewitched them 20 years ago.
With its fascinating scenery, novelties and catchy music, the film is a success. With a budget of 52 million dollars, Oh my god! It grossed nearly $610 million at the international box office and attracted more than 1.5 million viewers to French theaters.
In July 2018, Ol Parker released his second opus under the name Oh my god! Here we go again. After the first part, the feature film presents a number of flashbacks that allow us to return to the youth of Donna, played by Lily James.
In this opus, Sophie prepares to open her hotel on the island of Kalokairi, and finds comfort with the friends of her mother, who died a few years earlier. The latter advises him to take an example from Donna’s journey.
On the casting side, Cheri and Andy Garcia join the small cast. Shot on the island of Vis, not Greece, on a budget of $75 million, the film grossed $402 million internationally and brought in 735,883 viewers in French theaters.

Oh my god! Here we go again
Or is a third film being considered?
The return of Meryl Streep
Last May, Judy Kramer, the producer of the musical and two feature films, revealed that she was looking to put together a third installment and return. Meryl Streep.
The latter said thus Deadline :”The project is at an early stage. I don’t want to go too far, but I know it’s enough to make a trilogy. There’s a story to tell and I think Meryl Streep should come back – and if the script is good, she would, I think, because she really enjoyed playing Donna.“
He was questioned last September Vogue On the long topic of the success of the films and a potential third opus, Meryl Streep said:I am ready for anything. I’ll have to rehabilitate my knee before filming, but if there’s an idea I’m excited about, I’m all for it. I told Judy Kramer that if she found a way to reincarnate Donna, I was there. Or it could be one of those series where Donna comes back and reveals that her twin sister is actually dead.

Oh my god
At the moment, there is nothing official about Mamma Mia 3, but the project is under study. If Meryl Streep returns, the film’s plot must take place before then Here we go again! Because Sophie explains that her mother died.
The Amanda Seyfried situation
However, in order to bring the cast members back, the production must agree to a pay raise. As Universal Pictures president Donna Langley told Vogue“Universal wants to make a third film”For her part, Amanda Seyfried makes a promise: to pay fair value…
Sophie’s interpreter said that she was enthusiastic about the idea of returning to her character, but wished that the studio would pay the actors in the film better. He states: “No one says no, but no one says yes either. The powers that be can’t afford to pay us…
I hate to say this because I would do Mamma Mia 3 for free because I love that team, but that’s not the reality of the business we’re in. What is right is right. And I have a feeling that making a third movie is going to be just as stupid as the money thing. Will Universal agree to pay us?”
