Filmmaker estimated that Rebel Moon – Part 1: The Fire Girl, released last December, would have grossed more than US$1.5 billion in theaters
Zack Snyder believes that, if it were released in theaters, Rebel Moon – Part 1: The Fire Girlthe filmmaker’s new production with Netflix, the film would have had a higher box office than Barbiethe most successful film on the big screen in 2023.
In an interview with podcast in Joe Rogan, Snyder estimated that, if the same audience that watched the film on Netflix, had seen the production in theaters, the box office of the first part of Rebel Moonwhich gets a sequel in April, would have been worth more than US$1.5 billion (R$7.4 billion at current prices):
“If you take the numbers of Rebel Moon…Right now we have almost 90 million views, right? In total, 80 or 90 million accounts watched the film. But if we think that each view represents, on average, two people… That’s the math, you know?”began the filmmaker.
“If it were a film distributed in the cinema, the film would have around 160 million spectators. Now imagine that with tickets priced at US$10? How much is 160 million multiplied by US$10? That’s US$1.6 billion. Then probably more people would come Rebel Moon than Barbie at the movies, right?”completed Snyder.
Directed by Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird: Time to Fly), Barbie premiered in July 2023 and grossed around US$1.4 billion (R$6.9 billion) during its run in cinemas around the world.
