:

Whether you’re just starting out or new to the One Piece series, this guide will definitely help you. It is worth mentioning that the episodes will be mentioned here which are essentially episodes that have not been adapted from the original content (i.e. the manga) and consequently do not add elements to the story and therefore do not need to be watched, as they do not provide relevant elements for understanding the story.

It is also worth mentioning that there are also episodes in One Piece, which are partially adapted from the manga, or completely original, but which still tend to offer important facts to the story and are often worth watching. Finally, it is important to say that the films are original and non-canon, therefore they are not part of the history of the work, even if many of them deserve to be seen. Having said that, let’s move on to the guide to the sagas and narrative arcs of One Piece.

Saga: East Blue

This is where everything really begins and the elements of One Piece are introduced, how the navy works and what pirates are like in this world, as well as knowing the powers of the Devil Fruits and the past of each of the protagonists of arcs very well divided by each of them. Here we also see the personality of each of them take shape and what we can expect from now on, as well as introducing some characters that will become relevant in the future.

Alabasta Saga (or baroque works)

The Alabasta saga, or also called Baroque Works, is one of the most important of One Piece, with arcs that raise the level of the story, the enemies and the protagonists themselves to another level. After finally entering the Grand Line, Luffy meets Nefertari Vivi, a princess of a kingdom that is about to enter a Civil War, as well as having a powerful Shichibukai that is taking control of everything and, together with her organization, promises to be the most powerful enemy that Luffy and his gang have already faced.

Skype Saga

Although the saga already begins with fillers, these are extremely important in the development of the work, since they present concepts that we will understand more in the future and have arcs with long-term repercussions in One Piece, since it is in this saga that the gang of Straw Hat manages to go to an island in the sky called Skypea and that’s where they meet God Enel, who simply has one of the akuma no mi considered invincible. The land of Skypea is full of mysteries and stories, as well as having a people constantly at war against the power of Enel. It is also worth saying that this saga is closed by the G-8 arc, which is considered by many to be the best story arc in the entire anime.

Water saga 7

After all the events of Skypea, the crew begins to experience conflicts, because after many adventures, the ship Going Merry is on the verge of sinking and they urgently need to find someone to repair it. It is at this point in the story that we meet CP9 and we also have the first appearance of Aokiji, one of the three navy admirals, where we can see the difference in strength between him and the protagonists at that time. It is in this saga that one of the main characters thus far ends up leaving the Straw Hat gang and this is marked as one of the most exciting story arcs of One Piece.

The bark thriller saga

After the events of Water 7, the mugiwara land on a ghost island full of terrifying enemies and discover that this is a region dominated by none other than the Shichibukai Gecko Moria, who uses Luffy’s shadow to revive the giant zombie general, Oars . Furthermore, in one of the arcs of the saga, a strange new member joins Luffy’s crew and his companions in search of the One Piece.

Marineford War Saga

This is the saga that marks the middle of the adventure of Luffy and his companions and is considered by many to be one of the best narrative arcs of One Piece to date. The focal point of this saga is Ace, Luffy’s brother, who has been captured by the navy and is about to be executed. With this in mind, Luffy invades Impel Down prison in search of rescue, but the climax of the saga takes place in Marineford, the navy base, where what was called the “War of the Best” takes place, where the pirates of Yonkou Whitebeard and several allies, including Luffy, face the Navy in search of Ace’s safety.

Fishman Island Saga

After the events of Marineford, the Straw Hat gang split up and two years passed, finally marking the much talked about Time Skip, in which the characters matured and became even stronger. After finally being reunited, they embark together towards Fishman Island. However, his arrival is marked by a dark prediction from a famous fortune teller, who states that Luffy will be responsible for the island’s destruction. Once again the crew is falsely accused, while behind the scenes fisherman Hody Jones plots to stage a coup and take control of the Ryugu Kingdom.

Pirate Alliance Saga

The previous saga was marked by the reunion of the Mugiwara, but this new narrative arc marks the entry of the crew into the New World. Over the course of this saga, the protagonists are called to the aid of Punk Hazard Island, where they encounter the Shichibukai, Trafalgar Law, and there uncover a conspiracy to create artificial Devil Fruits, triggering a series of intriguing events. Subsequently, the narrative takes them to the gladiator tournament in Dressrosa, where Luffy reunites with Sabo, another “adopted brother” of his, who everyone thought was dead. However, the situation becomes complicated when the villain Doflamingo traps them in a colossal cage, leading to an epic battle between him and Luffy, which becomes one of the most memorable final arcs of One Piece.

Yonkou Sangha

One Piece - Borderless

The Yonkou Saga is the last saga completed in the anime to date and is one of the most important and long-lasting of the work. Now the Mugiwara have arrived on the island of Zou, where they find a thousand-year-old living elephant, whose back hides an entire island. There they come into contact with the Mink Tribe, who are recovering from an attack perpetrated by Jack, one of Yonkou Kaido’s main subordinates. Part of the group decides to undertake a mission to save Sanji, who is about to be forced into an unwanted marriage, and, in the meantime, they establish an alliance with the aim of defeating another Yonkou, the fearsome Big Mom. ‘Empress, in turn, joins forces with Kaido, forming a menacing alliance. The Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance then gathers in the country of Wano to face these powerful antagonists. During this confrontation, Luffy faces Kaido and, after revealing a great secret linked to his fruit Gomu Gomu no Mi, emerges victorious. As a result of this epic battle, Luffy ascends to the status of one of the Sea Emperors.

Final saga

And now we finally arrive at what appears to be the final saga of One Piece. After defeating the Yonkous, the world of One Piece was shaken, now with Luffy and the pirate Buggy as the new Emperors of the Sea, as well as the introduction of the Cross Guild, a pirate alliance between Crocodile, Mihawk, and Yonkou Buggy himself. The Straw Hats in turn head to Egghead Island, where they finally find the famous scientist Vegapunk, who is being chased by CP-0. The saga has only just begun, and the current story arc is likely the first of many to come.

It is worth mentioning once again that the anime is released weekly, so the guide will be updated as new episodes are released.
