Bolero, released in theaters on March 6, takes us back to 1928. While Paris lives to the rhythm of the Roaring Twenties, dancer Ida Rubinstein commissions Maurice Ravel to provide the music for her next ballet.
Paralyzed and without inspiration, the composer looks over the pages of his life – the failure of his beginnings, the fracture of the Great War, the impossible love he feels for his muse, Miss Sert…Ravel then dives into the deep. He himself created his universal work, Bolero.
Cast Raphael the character of Maurice Ravel, the Anne Fontaine-directed biopic convinced AlloCiné audiences? With a rating of 3.4 out of 5 (average of 101 ratings as of March 7 at 4 p.m.), the work is generally rated 3 to 5 stars with most ratings.
What do viewers think?
“Rafael Personazzi plays this famous composer very well and Jeanne Balibar shows her class as a great actress as Ida Rubinstein. This film is an interesting discovery and not just for music lovers.”Bernard Coric thinks.
intense?
In turn, Caro Cinéma discovers that Bolero is “It is a very beautiful film, brilliant and fascinating. We discover a demanding and meticulous composer. He is slowly fed by the sounds around him… We enter a long creative process and feel the vibration, the excitement… The image is delicate, calm and intense, everything serves a strong and an incomprehensible novel.”
Enchanting?
“An invigorating film set to the rhythm of a bolero. The Raphael character is outstanding, I discovered Ravel, his music and his era. Absolutely fascinating to watch”shared by Pierre Jeanne.
According to Ouadhu, “Bolero is a great film with Raphael as subtle as he is invested in the role. It is not a school biopic, but a very beautiful mural around creativity. Emmanuelle Devos and Jean Balibar are excellent. A small reservation about Doria Tillier. Tender. A film as moving as it is explosive. sometime”.
Is it too long?
Math719 appreciated Bolero despite the downsides of time. “It’s great to discover how and in what state this composition came to be! The Raphael character is excellent and all the actresses who play are also brilliant. However, there are a few lengths, without a masterpiece, that are interesting.”
Slow and boring?
While most of the first viewers were convinced by Anne Fontaine’s suggestion, some missed it: “It’s not good at all, it’s slow and plays very badly; the only good thing is the bolero music, otherwise it’s dead boring”indicated by Hervé B.
According to Omg151, “Despite the beautiful scenery and costumes, the film is rather boring and didactic. The story of the creation of Bolero lacks passion. The staging is very flat, as academic as in a lavish TV movie. The actors spin and spin around Ravel, playing a character with a sick inside.”
If you want to make up your own mind, Bolero is on show from March 6.
