Ever wonder what the Cantina customers were drinking in Star Wars? In Chile, the answer is clear: it’s Cristal beer! Except that this alcoholic drink – and should be consumed in moderation – is not a fictional brand and actually exists. And it was visually integrated into the films written by George Lucas!
How it happened ?
We are in 2004, in Chile. The original Star Wars trilogy is broadcast on Canal 13, one of the country’s historic channels, established in 1959. Except that Chilean audiences don’t see the same movies that we know. easily Advertising Because “Crystal” beer is literally included in the movies. Here is one example among others:
Note how the hands holding the beer are cleverly disguised in a toga reminiscent of Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Alec Guinness. The actor, of course, did not get paid for this advertisement added by the Chilean television, but it is not a pity, because the salary was already quite comfortable.
And he also works with Palpatine and using the Force, please:
A beer can in a hollow tree!
The entire galactic trilogy will be entitled to this during this 2004 show, other examples of which can be seen on the YouTube channel “emetwistable”, which has an entire collection, including the one where Luke still finds the beer can. A tree in the middle!
Another, quite surreal, is included in The Empire Strikes Back, where at this moment Luke is about to freeze on Hoth. Then his saviors say to themselves that maybe it’s time for some beer, Cerveza Cristal!
I’ve actually had people tell me it’s not real and I’ve made them for internet points. They clearly ignored good fact-checking practices! I would never do such a thing for internet dots.
Anyway, here’s another one I found. https://t.co/IHWiR61inO pic.twitter.com/Iwowh3PJdI

Nevertheless, the king of manufactured products, George Lucas, did not dare to place the product in his Star Wars universe, but Chilean television took care of it. However, we don’t know what he thought – or would have thought – about such a re-editing of his films!
