Chinese stocks close lower; Wuxi Apptec exerts pressure on the Hong Kong market

Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, led by declines in the gaming and semiconductor sectors, while the Hong Kong market fell under pressure from Wuxi Apptec.




The CSI300 index, which brings together the major companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen, closed with a decline of 0.28%, while the Shanghai index lost 0.18%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index lost 0.71%.

Gaming and semiconductor stocks fell 3.2% and 1.6%, respectively.

Sentiment towards Wuxi Apptec and Wuxi Biologics has weakened further as a US-based biotech trade association is taking steps to “spin-off” Chinese member Wuxi AppTec, causing both stocks to drop by more than 12%.

. In TOKYO the Nikkei index advanced by 0.29%, to 38,807 points.

. In HONG KONG the HANG SENG index fell by 0.71% to 16,961 points.

. IN SHANGHAI the SSEC index lost 0.18%, to 3,038 points.

. The CSI300 index, which brings together the major companies listed in SHANGHAI and SHENZHEN, fell by 0.28% to 3,562 points.

. In SEOUL, the KOSPI index rose 0.94% to 2,718 points.

. In TAIWAN the TAIEX index recorded an increase of 0.05%, to 19,937 points.

. IN SINGAPORE the STRAITS TIMES index rose by 0.81%, to 3,186 points.

. In SYDNEY the S&P/ASX 200 index fell by 0.20% to 7,713 points.
