Denise Guimarães insinuated that LGBT people “don’t reproduce,” which goes against what “God said”
The public prosecutor of Alagoas Denise Guimarães did so homophobic statements during a session. The comments were made while she was talking to a colleague and she didn’t realize the microphone was still on.
The event happened last Thursday, the 14th. According to an audio obtained and released by Agência Diadorim, she was commenting on the departure of the representatives of the movement LGBTQIA+ to discuss topics related to the theme: “Márcio even gave us a car,” Denise commented critically.
At another point in the conversation he says:
“God said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply.’ Anyone who says these LGBT people are multiplying, I will remain silent,” she commented.
OR Earth asked the Public Prosecutor to comment on the episode and has not yet received a response, but the body stated to the agency that “a debate was promoted on affirmative public policies which aimed to discuss the historical repair of the State in the recognition of rights of vulnerable populations, the example of the LGBTQIA+, quilombola, indigenous and black communities”.
“The Brazilian Public Ministry, including that of Alagoas, has the constitutional duty to promote the uncompromising defense of all the rights of these communities, which is why it does not agree with any type of discriminatory action carried out by any of its members and employees.”, he said.
The Gay Group of Maceió, one of the representatives of the movement in the state, underlined that “it is no longer possible to tolerate this type of attitude, much less from a public prosecutor who is supposed to work in favor of human rights.”
“It is deplorable to see statements like the ones we see in the video coming from a public official who is supposed to respect and protect the laws! We will speak to the Chief Public Prosecutor to understand the situation and will also contact our legal department and national leaders as these biased statements cannot be seen as just an isolated incident. We must act so that this type of attitude does not happen again,” the NGO said.
