The new comic with Brazilian art is “Stranger Things in the 1950s”


Discover Rafael Albuquerque’s new comic that gives a sci-fi twist to 1950s American alternative history

North American screenwriter Scott Snyder and Brazilian artist Rafael Albuquerque gained a lot of notoriety thanks to their joint work on Batman New 52 it’s at American vampire. And this latest work seems to have an influence Duck and covera new monthly effort from the duo for digital comics in the Comixology Originals catalog that is “as if Stranger things it happened in the 1950s.”



Duck and cover has the creative team of Scott Snyder, Rafael Albuquerque, Marcelo Maiolo and Bernardo Brice. The setting is 1955, when a group of high school teenagers in the United States discover that their lives have changed forever when nuclear war apparently breaks out.

Taught to “duck and hide” (“duck and cover“, in English, namesake of the magazine) under their desks, while global tensions increase, a real apocalyptic event changes the history and lives of these teenagers. Now, they will find themselves facing a new threat, which has a face familiar.

Drama, horror and science fiction

The series is described as “a manga-influenced teen adventure set in strange, post-apocalyptic America… 1955.” The first edition featured the town of Schellville and some of its teenage inhabitants, focusing on a dramatic and comedic perspective in keeping with the trends of the time.

The second edition turns foreign threats into a horror story, including more graphic violence. And now, the third edition, offers elements of mystery and science fiction by showing Pugg, previously a member of the surviving group of teenagers, appearing as a terrible alien hybrid.

Duck and cover #3 will be available from this Tuesday (19th) on the digital comics platform ComiXology.
