Federal police have indicted former President Jair Bolsonaro on vaccination card fraud charges, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday, in another legal problem for the former president.
According to one of the sources, the investigation report prepared by PF was forwarded by the company to the Federal Court. In addition to Bolsonaro, Colonel Mauro Cid, the president’s former aide-de-camp, arrested in May last year as part of investigations into possible fraud with the vaccination card of Bolsonaro and his allies, was also indicted. He signed a plea agreement which was approved by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF.
According to sources, Bolsonaro was indicted for the crime of entering false data into the Unified Health System (SUS) and for criminal conspiracy.
Earlier this month, sources linked to the investigations involving Bolsonaro told Reuters that incriminating the former president was already being discussed in the investigations which, in addition to the alleged vaccination card fraud, also investigate embezzlement by of Bolsonaro of the jewels presented by the government of Saudi Arabia and a coup attempt.
The indictment would pave the way for Bolsonaro to be denounced by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet. If the charge is accepted by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), he will face criminal proceedings which could lead to his arrest if convicted.
In the case of the vaccination card fraud investigation, investigators are investigating whether false information regarding immunization against Covid-19 was inserted in Bolsonaro’s documents and those of people close to him.
Contacted by Reuters, Bolsonaro reiterated that he had not taken the Covid-19 vaccine and said he was calm.
“It’s a selective investigation. I’m calm, I don’t owe anything,” the former president said. “The world knows that I didn’t get the vaccine,” he added, who during the pandemic has repeatedly criticized immunization against Covid-19, a disease that has killed 700 thousand people in Brazil.

“The leaks continue in droves, or rather, in litres. It is deplorable that the authority uses the press to communicate a formal act which logically should have a technical and procedural rather than media and partial covering,” he wrote.
