The new iPhone 15 commercial shows the accuracy of Face ID, which helps protect the device from prying eyes
A Apple has aired a new TV commercial for the iPhone15, recalling the protection capabilities of the Face ID system. To do this, the brand showed a family lunch, during which curious relatives try to access the device without authorization.
- Apple Watch almost got an Android-compatible version
- The iPhone 16 line could get a new screen with ultra-thin edges
In the scene the owner of the device is absent, but he left the device on the table. After the iPhone 15 receives the notification, several family members try to unlock the phone, without success.
The goal is to demonstrate that, even with people who have physical similarities, Face ID does not get confused and will only give access to the device if the face of someone registered on the device is identified.
For what, Face ID uses a series of advanced biometric sensors, which are able to detect facial details using a depth map. This means that the system will work even if the person is wearing makeup or glasses, for example.
This is a different system from that used on other mobile phones, which can adopt simpler capture techniques with the front camera. In general, they are less secure and accurate and in some cases can also be fooled through photos or other static content.
The new Apple commercial was published a few days after other advertising content regarding the memory capacity of the iPhone 15. In it, the people contained in the photos in the gallery “come to life” and start singing asking that they not be deleted:
