Maranhense takes fourth place in the European Kite Flying Championship in Spain
Brazilian Bruno Lobo placed fourth in the Formula Kite European Championship, an event held in Los Alcázares, Mar Menor, Spain. The races concluded this Sunday (24th) with 137 kites from 39 countries.
The winner was Max Maeder, of Singapore, who maintained favoritism in the new Olympic class. Silver went to the Frenchman Alex Mazela, bronze to the Italian Riccardo Pianosi. Maranhão’s Bruno Lobo finished fifth in the semi-final and went into the decision dominated by the Asian.
”It’s a European Championship, but as if it were a World Cup, right? All athletes here. Well, it was a very nice event for me, I managed to have some good feelings, some good moments, winning some regattas,” said Bruno Lobo.
”I also had moments where I made mistakes, so there are some points to work on, but I’m happy with the evolution of the last few months. I’m getting further and further forward, always fighting among the best and today I managed to win my semi-final”.
Lucas Fonseca placed 36th in the Spanish event overall and 11th in the silver flotilla. In the women’s category, Maria do Socorro Reis placed 38th. The campaign by Bruno Lobo and Lucas Fonseca is managed by Juan Sienra, technical director of CBVela.
”We finished the first event of the season. A result foreseen in the plan in view of the 2024 Games. Bruno has managed to reach an excellent technical level and is fully capable of competing on equal terms with his rivals,” said Juan Sienra.
”We will now analyze the events and evaluate the existing planning based on strengths and areas for improvement. we continue to work now in Palma de Mallorca to learn from the European Championship”.
As mentioned, Bruno Lobo will join the Brazilian Sailing Team at the Princess Sofia Trophy, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, at the end of the month.
