Unlike the government, the PT says it will participate in events commemorating the 60th anniversary of the military coup

In a note from the National Directorate of the PT released this Wednesday, the 27th, we read that the party will support and participate in the acts related to the 60th anniversary of the military coup of 1964. This position contrasts with that of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva , who wants to avoid management statements on the subject so as not to cause tensions between the Executive and the military.

“The PT will support and participate in the social acts and demonstrations scheduled for March 31 and April 1 in various parts of the country, in addition to the activities organized by its foundation, the Perseu Abramo Foundation, on the 60th anniversary of the coup d’état of 1964,” the resolution reads.

“On the eve of the day of remembrance which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the 1964 coup, the Workers’ Party reaffirms its commitment to defending democracy in the country, a value present in the original DNA of the party since its foundation on 10 February , 1980”, we read in the text.

The note refers to the meeting held on Tuesday 26th. The national leadership of the PT meets regularly and it is standard practice to publish texts summarizing the discussions at the top of the party.
