We are thrilled to offer MGM’s rich library of content to our subscribers in Latin America: from the popular TV series Handmaid’s Tale, Stargate and Teen Wolf to the hit film series Rocky, Creed, Child’s Play, Color Panther -Pink and Legally Blonde. This MGM programming was recently paired with a robust offering of premium series and films from Lionsgate/Starz to enhance our service in Latin America.
Michael Katzer, head of MGM+ Internacional, in a statement.
Amazon buys MGM
Amazon completed its purchase of MGM in 2022, when the European Union’s antitrust commission gave the green light to the merger. The deal cost the company $8.45 billion, or about R$43.3 billion.
Historic, the acquisition came to strengthen the Prime Video library, perhaps giving it an advantage over Netflix, Max and Disney+; It’s worth remembering, however, that the market continues to adapt to the competition: now Max (formerly HBO Max) has joined Discovery+, while Disney+ has added Hulu to its app. Star+ will also be added to Disney’s main stream in an effort to centralize and “improve the user experience”.
