Nightwing and Batgirl may form one of the most iconic romances in the DC Universe, but Batman ships the first Robin with another heroine
Even superheroes love it, even the coldest hearts of DC Comics. And one of the publisher’s most famous novels reunites Dick Grayson, the first Robin and the current Nightwing, with Barbara Gordon, Batgirl. However, in a recent comic, Batman ships the young man with another heroine.
- Batman puts an end to the problem that has haunted Robin for 83 years
- Batman has a new Robin who could be the ultimate solution… or the biggest threat
In Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #1 8recently released, the storyline brings together Batman, Superman, Dick Grayson as Robin, and Kara Zor-El as Superman, in a period obviously before Grayson’s development as Nightwing.
In previous editions, Robin and Supergirl are forced to join forces, albeit with some reluctance, presenting a comically antagonistic dynamic. And that’s when we see one of those cheesy, funny moments that DC loves to give us: Awkwardly, Bruce encourages Dick to ask Kara on a date.
This dynamic seems and was interesting, precisely because of the completely different temperaments. But, after a few meetings ended in absolute disaster, Superman: World’s Greatest #1 12 revealed a few months later that Dick and Kara are better as allies than lovers.
So, Batman’s hopes of having “grandchildren” enhanced with Superman’s genes fell long after this revelation, as, to this day, Nightwing and Batgirl continue to get involved from time to time.
