With one more player for much of the second phase, Flamengo, at the height of Bogotá, did not take advantage of its numerical superiority
Flamengo drew 1-1 against Millonarios this Tuesday (2), in the first round of Group E of the Libertadores. At the El Campín stadium in Bogotá, Colombia, Pedro opened the scoring for the Brazilian team with a penalty. Even with one less player on the pitch, the home team managed to equalize through Daniel Ruiz, a former Santos player. Both goals came in the second half.
Flamengo’s next match is with the Campeonato Carioca. On Sunday they will face Nova Iguaçu again, in the second decisive match (the first they won 3-0). Later, on Wednesday, they will host Palestino at the Maracanã, in the Libertadores.
What the game was like
In an eventful first half, Flamengo started the match in Bogotá by exchanging passes from the defensive line to the attack. The Rossoneri’s first big chance, in fact, came in the 4th minute with Viña. Cebolinha launches Bruno Henrique, who crosses for the Uruguayan. Alone, the full-back, with his direct foot, sends the ball over the goal. In the 12th minute it was Bruno Henrique’s turn, after a good individual move by Arrascaeta, to stop Montero, who scored.
But if the Brazilian team did not take advantage of the opportunities, the home team improved in performance in the second half of the first phase. In the 36th minute Leonardo Castro sends the ball into one of Rossi’s goal posts. Later, in the 39th minute, the Argentine goalkeeper made a great save on Giordana’s shot. In short, Millonarios, physically better, was closer to regaining the lead in the standings.
Second time
Encountering difficulties on the pitch, Flamengo scored the goal in the 15th minute. Arrascaeta is brought down by Larry inside the area and the referee awards a penalty. The number 5 of the Millonarios, in fact, was sent off. Pedro, the Rossoneri’s top scorer, took the penalty and didn’t waste anything.
Indeed, with one more player on the pitch, Mais Querido began to create more opportunities. However, the Colombian team equalized in the 34th minute with Daniel Ruiz, who had just come on. Flamengo looked for victory until the end, but drew in Bogotá.
