Those who follow Formula 1 saw that Max Verstappen abandoned the Australian GP due to brake problems in the right rear tire, which caused it to overheat, followed by a fire, forcing the driver to stop on the second lap.

The category’s official brake supplier, Brembo, declared itself blameless and said the failures were caused by errors by the team itself, Red Bull Racing.

It is worth mentioning that in the Bahrain GP Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc also suffered with the brakes, displaying a problem very similar to that of Verstappen. Both drivers had the same sensation, as if the handbrake was on.

Despite speculation about a component failure, brake supplier Brembo denied the problem and highlighted probable configuration errors in the car.

Brembo guarantees that there is no relationship with the components supplied and states: “We have investigated and concluded that the problems are not linked to component anomalies or material malfunction. In both cases the origin points to an incorrect configuration chosen by the teams.”

Red Bull changed supplier last season, going from Carbon Industrie to Brembo.

Red Bull has not yet officially released the exact cause of Verstappen’s retirement. Immediately after the race, team principal Christian Horner commented on a possible problem with the brake caliper which had caused it to overheat.
