A Georgia judge on Thursday rejected Donald Trump’s attempt to dismiss criminal charges of interfering in the 2020 election, which the former Republican US president says violates his rights to free expression.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee concluded that the indictment alleges that statements by Trump and 14 others involved in the lawsuit were made “in furtherance of criminal activity” and are not protected by the First Amendment of Constitution of the United States.
Trump and the other defendants were charged with racketeering and other crimes over an alleged attempt to overturn Trump’s defeat in Georgia to Democratic President Joe Biden. They have pleaded not guilty.
