Paraguay decides to expel 25 Brazilian PCC members who are in prison

Police data reveals that around 800 detainees also have links to the criminal faction

With simultaneous actions in Paraguayan penitentiaries, the National Police has so far managed to identify 25 Brazilian prisoners linked to the PCC (First Command of the Capital) and other criminal groups. Operation Purgátio was launched on Thursday morning (4) in six cities.

The prisoners on the initial list drawn up by the National Police were removed from their cells in the penitentiaries of Asunción, Concepción, Pedro Juan Caballero, Itapúa, Ciudad del Este and Coronel Oviedo. According to data from the Criminal Investigation Department of the police, they will be handed over to the Brazilian authorities.

According to the information collected so far, the measure would also be adopted in other penitentiary institutions in the neighboring country. In the last week of last month, Paraguayan authorities received alerts from the intelligence service of Brazil’s federal police.

According to the Paraguayan police, the Brazilian alert is motivated by a strong internal fracture within the PCC (First Command of the Capital), based on the accusations of the faction’s leader, Marcos Willians Herbas, alias ‘Marcola’, which could lead to a war between the factions within prisons.
