One of the most watched series on streaming platforms like Netflix, it is called The Chosen (The Chosen Ones), has already gathered thousands of fans all over the world, it is a story that most people, at least in the West, are already very familiar with, a long time ago, after all we are talking about a man who lived more than 2 thousand years ago: Jesus Christ.
But after all, as a story that we know so well and that has already been represented in different ways, by different directors, in films, soap operas, drawings, among other works, is successful and achieves a kind of “reinterpretation”, attracting the attention on the daily life of this young Galilean?

Well, speaking of the series itself, calling it a “re-read” might be an exaggeration, given that director Dallas Jenkins tried to maintain fidelity to the biblical texts, but masterfully uses “poetic license”. This allowed him to portray the life of Christ from several interesting perspectives, including exploring this creative ability with other characters, for example Mateus, which brings out autistic behaviors, leaving him humanized. Fact: It’s hard to watch the series without being touched by these subtleties.
It attests to the very birth of the idea of the series as a miracle, as Dallas left a failed project, completely discredited, and, in a moment of deep prayer, felt in his heart that to God “math is different.”
History
Dallas made his first independent feature film, “Hometown Legend,” at the age of 25. In the more than 20 years since then, he has directed and produced more than a dozen feature and short films for Universal, Lionsgate, Pureflix, Hallmark and Amazon.
The series’ production claims that some locations and timelines have been combined or condensed. Backstory, some characters and dialogue have been added. However, every biblical and historical context and every artistic imagination had to support the truth and intent of Scripture.

Jonathan Roumie is the American actor who plays Jesus in the series, which also includes other actors such as: the Israeli Shahar Isaac (Peter), the Indian Paras Patel (Matthew) and the American Vanessa Benavente (Mary). The cast includes Brazilian Lara Silva, who plays Pedro’s wife, Éden. The direction and part of the screenplay are by Dallas Jenkins.
