Caio Bonfim takes bronze and Viviane Lyra gets the PB in the Czech Republic

Caio Bonfim won the bronze medal in the Podebrady Walking, stage of the World Race Walking Circuit. In the 20km race held in the Czech Republic city, the Brazilian walker completed the route in 1h18min50s. In the women’s competition, Viviane Lyra placed 5th and surpassed her career-best score.




Caio Bonfim started the race well and led in the first kilometers. However, towards the middle of the competition, he was overtaken and placed fifth. Even so, he tried to make an early start and took third place before the 15km mark.

He then began chasing second-placed Canadian Evan Dunffee, who was 20 seconds ahead. At km 17 Caio managed to halve the gap, but he was unable to overtake. Dunffee won silver in 1:18:41. Current world runner-up in the 20km race walk, Swede Perseus Karlström won gold in 1h18min22s.

Viviane deals with PB

Despite finishing on the podium, Viviane Lyra achieved her best career result. Less than a year after setting her personal best in the 20km World Cup in Budapest with 1h28min36s and reaching the Olympic mark, the Brazilian managed to improve her mark by 3 seconds.

In the Podebrady Walking, Viviane came in 5th place, clocking 1h28min25s. The winner of the race was Peruvian Kimberly García León, who set a new South American record with 1h27min08s. The continent’s former record holder, Ecuadorian Glenda Morejón came in next with 1h27min21s. Italian Antonella Palmisano completed the podium in 1h27min27s.
