The court of Ponta Grossa, in the Campos Gerais region, sentenced the boyfriend accused of the death of Cauane Zavolski Martins. During the trial which took place on Tuesday (9), Thiago Rafael Oliveira was sentenced to 25 years in prison. According to the Paraná Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPPR), the motivation for the crime was the fact that the victim maintained frequent contact with a reserve military police officer and had received, days earlier, a photo of him on his cell phone.
According to the Civil Police, the crime occurred at the end of a dinner organized with the victim’s family. After leaving the place, she allegedly went to an apartment with Thiago, and from then on she was never seen again.
In the trial hearing, the Sentencing Council recognized the qualifications presented in the complaint of the 10th Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ponta Grossa, condemning the accused for homicide qualified with a cowardly motive, use of means that made the victim’s defense difficult and for having been the crime committed because of the female sex of the victim (femicide).
The perpetrator of the murder, also convicted of the crime of stealing the victim’s mobile phone, is already in precautionary custody and will serve his sentence in prison.
Second defendant
The crime occurred on January 29, 2022, but Cauane’s body was found only in March, in the rural area of the municipality.
The jury also tried a second defendant, who had helped hide the victim’s body in a rural property in the Cerradinho region, on the banks of PR-513, in the Itaiacoca district. He was sentenced to one year, three months in prison and 12 days of fine.
