Three other people are missing
Rescuers have found the fourth victim of the explosion that hit an Enel Green Power hydroelectric plant on Lake Suviana, near Bologna, in northern Italy last Tuesday (9).
The body was found by firefighters from the fire brigade, bringing the number of confirmed deaths in the tragedy to four.
The body, however, has not yet been removed by rescue teams. Three other workers are still missing and rescuers have little hope of finding them alive.
According to Enel Green Power, which expressed “deep condolences” for all the victims, modernization works were underway at the Bargi plant. “We will continue to cooperate in every way with the authorities to clarify the facts,” the company said.
The plant is located below the water level, on the shore of an artificial lake in the Bolognese Apennines, and the explosion occurred on the eighth underground floor, about 40 meters deep, subsequently causing a fire.
It is not yet known what caused the accident, which was the subject of a demonstration of at least 1,500 people called by trade unions in Bologna on Thursday.
“Today is the day of anger in the world of work, we will stop all day,” said Michele Bulgarelli, secretary of the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL) in the city.
