Chile may soon have a law giving people mourning the death of a pet a day off.

Through social media, the journalist made a moving appeal to the political class to “promote a bill that guarantees the right of every Chilean to experience a day of mourning for the loss of their pet”.

If passed, the law will give students special leave from work and a day off from school.

According to a 2022 Cadem survey, 87% of Chileans said that their pet is “a member of the family” and 67% revealed that they suffer when something happens to their pet. .
