During “movie nights” at home, a problem often arises: how to find a movie that everyone will like? Be aware that there is a feature film on Netflix that will satisfy big-screen moviegoers and those who prefer very deep character studies, and it’s called Chronicle.
If you’re into 2010s cinema, you’ve probably already heard of this slightly different superhero movie. Released two months before the tidal wave of Marvel’s Avengers, Chronicle made waves by exploring the rift between friends who suddenly find themselves gifted with superpowers.
The trio is played by actors who have since become famous: Michael B. Jordan, seen in Black Panther and the hero of the Creed saga, Dane DeHaan, who played in Luc Besson’s Valerian, and Alex Russell, who has been one of the heroes since 2017. SWAT, the CBS action series (airing in its seventh season at the time of this writing).
Rated very well on AlloCiné with a 3.4 out of 5 for the press and 3.5 for the audience, Chronicle is the first feature film directed by Josh Trank, who immediately becomes a filmmaker to be reckoned with in the years to come. Except after a very bad experience on Fantastic Four – for which he rehired Michael B. JORDAN – Josh Trank left the world of big studios to make films with more private distribution.
With found footage style, humor, drama and special effects, Chronicle ticks all the boxes for entertainment that will delight the most diverse audiences gathered on the same evening. Try it and let us know how it goes!
