Changes are coming to Chicago Med: Co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider have decided to leave the long-running series at the end of its ninth season, which is currently airing in the US, after it was canceled following a writers’ strike.
“We were honored to be chosen by Dick Wolf to direct Chicago Med and have enjoyed our association with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. We love Chicago Med and have devoted all of our creative energy to it, but after nine seasons we feel it’s time to move on and explore other opportunities.“- said in the statement released at the beginning of April. “We were privileged to work with an amazing team of writers, producers, and a brilliant cast. We all miss them.“
Creator and executive producer Dick Wolff added:We are grateful to Diane and Andy for nine fabulous seasons of Chicago Med. They’ve helped give us a true #1 hit on NBC for nearly a decade.“
Chicago MedProduced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, is one of NBC’s flagship series and remains the number one Wednesday time slot averaging more than 10.5 million viewers per episode. The third series of the “One Chicago” franchise, following the Chicago Fire Department and the Chicago Police Department, it debuted in 2015.
However, the show went through a lot of changes last season with the departure of Guy Lockard (Dylan Scott) after 23 episodes, Asja Cooper (Vanessa Taylor) after 28 episodes, and most notably two of the series’ original stars, Brian Tee (Ethan). Choi) and Nick Gelfuss (Will Halstead), after no less than 136 and 163 episodes respectively. But season 9 also marked the arrival of two new actors: Luke Mitchell as Dr. Mitch Ripley and Sofia Ali as Dr. Zola Ahmed.
As with most long-running medical series, there have been many changes over the years, but S. Epatta Merkerson (Sharon Goodwin), Oliver Platt (Dr. Daniel Charles) and Marlene Barrett (Maggie Lockwood) are all good.Only three of the original cast are still part of the show.
The 13-episode season 9 of Chicago Med is currently airing every Wednesday on NBC in the US.
In France, the first 6 seasons of the series can be seen on Prime Video.
