The sympathizer just debuted at the Max. The historical drama miniseries is an HBO and A24 production and follows the story of a former French-Vietnamese communist spy, played by Hoa Xuande. He served in the Vietnam War, was exiled to the United States and now works as a cultural consultant on a Hollywood film.
The plot is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer’s book of the same name Viet Thanh Nguyen. This book, which already has a sequel, entitled The Committedreleased in 2021. So can we also expect a sequel to this 7-episode miniseries?
The answer may frustrate some viewers, but it is not yet possible to say that the series will have a second season. However, as the production receives good response from audiences, there is always the possibility of a renewal by HBO.
In addition to Hoa Xuande, the cast includes names like Sandra Oh,Toan Le AND Robert Downey Junior., who plays several characters: a deputy, a CIA police officer and the director of the film in which the protagonist participates. Robert Downey Jr. is also the producer of The Sympathizer.
