Amid rumors and confirmations that Disney/Marvel Studios had canceled some projects, the protagonist of Shang-Chi, Chinese actor Simu Liu, assured that the film’s sequel is still in development.
Confirmation came via social media. Liu responded to a fan’s appeal, who complained about the lack of information on the production. He said Marvel would abandon Shang-Chi’s fan base. The star calmed her down, saying via Threads: “I promise it will happen.”
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a 2021 film and is not on the list of the studio’s most successful films, although I really liked the story! The work has grossed more than $430 million at the box office worldwide.
The film mixes Chinese mythology with kung fu, with a good dose of humor. Shang-Chi is the son of the leader of a powerful organization, raised as a warrior, but ended up running away to have a normal life. At a certain point, however, the past imposes itself and the hero needs to return to his origins.
In addition to Simu Liu, the film features an almost entirely Asian cast, with Awkwafina (Filthy rich), Michelle Yeoh (Everything everywhere at the same time), Tony Leung (Love at the Flower of Leather), Meng’er Zhang (The witcher), Florian Munteanu (Creed III), Stephanie Hsu (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3).
The film is available on Disney+.
What we know about the sequel
Not much, it’s true. Three years after the first film, Marvel Studios has not released any relevant information about the second part.

The person who has already spoken about the topic – and for Threads – was the actor Simu Liu. Last year he said that the film would premiere after the next Avengers. The star, however, did not explain whether he was referring Avengers: Kang Dynasty Or the Avengers: Secret Wars.
Other than that, we only have a few entries. One of these indicates name registration (Wreckage of Time, in free translation). In other words, the film could feature more time travel, giving the hero an important role in the studio’s current saga, that of the multiverse.
Another rumor points to the introduction of new heroes with Asian ties, such as Iron Fist.
