Real life Harry Potter and Snape? Daniel Radcliffe thought Alan Rickman hated him

In “Harry Potter,” Professor Snape is capable of bullying almost any Hogwarts student, and “The Boy Who Lived” even seemed to have a contempt that bordered on the staff. However, towards the end of the saga, it is revealed that his intentions were nothing but noble and motivated by love. Something similar happened with the actors behind the characters.

Daniel Radcliffe thought Alan Rickman ‘hated him’ in early Harry Potter films

In a recent interview on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Daniel Radcliffe, best known for his role as Harry Potter, shared his experiences working with the late actor Alan Rickman, who played the formidable Professor Snape in the franchise.

The now 34-year-old actor admitted that in the early films he felt intimidated by Rickman to the point where he thought his co-star “hated him”:

“I felt very intimidated by Alan Rickman. How is it possible not to hear that voice? Even hearing that voice, you forget how quiet it was until it resonated within you. It scared the crap out of me in the first three movies. I scared him and thought, “This guy hates me.”

The confession came after the podcast host showed him a clip of an old interview in which the late performer praised his colleague’s work and dedication.

“Whereas I did it for seven weeks (shooting the ‘Harry Potter’ films), they did it for 52 weeks. “That was their life from age 12 to 22,” Rickman said of the child actors in the “Harry Potter” films.

Radcliffe was moved by his partner’s words and was grateful to see the recording.

This is how the relationship between Daniel Radcliffe and Alan Rickman changed

In almost the same way as it happens in fiction, the relationship between the actors of Harry Potter and Professor Snape turned from horror to sincere companionship. Radcliffe recalled that the moment Rickman saw his desire to work and improve on his craft, he became his mentor and changed the dynamic they had until then.

Their bond remained close even after the end of “Harry Potter”: “He interrupted his holiday in Canada to come and see me in ‘Equus.’ He saw every project I did when he was alive. He would ask me out later and we would talk about it,” Radcliffe said.

After seeing him on stage, Rickman was one of the first people to suggest that Radcliffe study voice training and explore different aspects of acting, the young actor revealed.

Radcliffe also said he was grateful to have Rickman’s experience and support in the early years of his career.
