After winning his first Oscar with the film “Oppenheimer”, Robert Downey Jr. is ready for another ambitious project. It’s an HBO Max series in which she plays four characters, each with their own distinct personality. The production is called ‘The Sympathizer’ and promises to be one of the most interesting television programs of the year.
What is ‘The Sympathizer’, an HBO Max series about?
“The Sympathizer,” as it’s called in English, centers on a character known as “The Captain,” a half-French, half-Vietnamese spy who served for communist forces during the Vietnam War and who, met his end conflict, he believes his days of leading a double life are coming to an end.
The young man starts a new life as a refugee in Los Angeles and there he discovers that the world of espionage still has a lot to offer him.
Two things to keep in mind are that this is a miniseries and that it’s based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Viet Thanh Nguyen.

“The Sympathizer” Series Review
With just one episode on the air, the HBO and A24 co-production has already won critical acclaim.
Collider called it “television at its best”, the Los Angeles Times called it “successful entertainment”, and Indiewire assured that it would “surprise” audiences.
On ‘Rotten Tomatoes’, the miniseries already has an 88% approval from specialist critics and 79% from the general public.
“The Sympathizer” Episodes Release Date
In HBO style, the series will premiere one episode a week. The first arrived on April 14, but the schedule for the following is:

- Episode 3: April 28, 2024
- Episode 4: May 5, 2024
- Episode 5: May 12, 2024
- Episode 6: May 19, 2024
- Episode 7: May 26, 2024
