Reboot the iconic saga

Frank Gastambid and Malik Bentalha have long wanted to relaunch the taxi franchise. “You would be a policeman, I would be a taxi driver“, Bentalha fantasized. The director from Pattaya was writing an action comedy he wanted to make with Omar Sy when Malick encouraged him to contact Luc Besson and talk to Taxi 5.

The actor contacted Besson on Instagram… who answers! The meeting with the film director takes place at the Cité du cinéma. The latter receives Gastambid and Bentalha in the process of filming Valerian. Building on the success of Kaira and Pattaya, the director spends an hour explaining his reboot idea to an attentive Luc Besson. Finally, the director agrees, Taxi 5 is launched!

Originally, Frank Gastambide had planned an important role for Sammy Naker, the hero of the first 4 opus of the franchise. “In my first treatment, Sam played a real role: he came at the end of the film to help us solve the story. Luc Besson told me that the character couldn’t be so important because we needed a new duo of heroes and it would be their movie. We cannot trust our elders.

Then we told ourselves that Sam had to appear at least in the blink of an eye. We have Bernard Farce, we have Edouard Montout, we have 407… but we needed Sam. We saw each other, we drank, we discussed the terms… but he didn’t want to accept a simple appearance. We respected his decision.
