In a match at the Maracanã, the Tricolor managed to establish itself and achieved its first victory in the Brazilian championship
Fluminense beat Vasco 2-1 and ended a run of 13 classics without a win. In a match at the Maracanã, the Tricolor managed to establish itself and achieved its first victory in Brazilian Championship.
FIRST HALF PLAYED AND ITALIAN ADVANTAGE
The start of the Maracanã classic was full of scoring and competition for space between the two teams. Both scored the ball and found opportunities to attack by taking advantage of this marking. In the 10th minute, Marcelo receives the ball freely on the left, raises his head and makes a beautiful assist for Ganso who scores his first goal of the year.
Five minutes later, Vasco fans complained that they had not received a penalty after the ball was deflected into the hands of Manuel, the Italian defender, when Vegetti shot on goal. VAR analyzed it and the match resumed without the referee reviewing the play.
Many complaints, requests for fouls, nerves on edge, meant that the match further increased the level of tension and the athletes committed many technical errors. With players from both teams very busy on the pitch, the number of fouls in the match rose to 17 in the entire first half. After little creation of plays, the first half ends with the Tricolore advantage on the scoreboard.
THE SECOND HALF AND THE END OF THE TRICOLOR TABOO IS ELECTRIFYING
The second half started with emotions for both fans. In the first minute, from a cross from the right, Marquinhos almost doubled the score for Fluminense. And, in the 3rd minute, Antônio Carlos makes a mistake in a reversal, the Cruzmaltino striker takes advantage and Fábio saves for Fluminense.
In the 8th minute, after a nice exchange of passes from Fluminense on the right wing, Samuel Xavier found Martinelli alone on the left. The midfielder hit the ball in the chest and pushed it into the Vasco goal. But there wasn’t even time to celebrate the two-goal lead. A minute later, midfielder Hugo Moura crossed for Vegetti, who slipped between the two Italian defenders and headed the ball into the goal, making it 2-1.
After 15 electrifying minutes, with two goals and several offensive actions, Fluminense tried to control the match with the traditional exchange of passes. And when Vasco had the ball, he activated his flanks to create crossing plays for Vegetti to finish.
After another mistake from Antônio Carlos, the ball fell to David who gave a beautiful pass to Vegetti who invaded the area and tied the game. But the Vasco striker’s knee was in front of the last defensive line and VAR flagged an offside, which prevented Fluminense from conceding a second goal.
In the final minutes the Vasco team didn’t have the same momentum to snatch the draw in the classic. Fluminense had the better scoring chances and could have increased the score in the victory. In the end, the Tricolores celebrated their first victory in the Brasileirão and the end of a sequence of 13 winless classics.
PLAN
Now Fluminense is preparing for the third round of the Libertadores group stage and will face Cerro Porteño next Thursday (25th), at 7pm. Vasco, however, will have a week without matches and will only return to the field next Saturday (27th), when they face Criciúma in the Brazilian championship.
