
Still unnamed, the live-action series about Godzilla and the monsters of the Monsterverse has already begun to define its cast. The production is by Apple TV + and Toho, which owns the copyrights of several kaiju (Japanese giant monsters) and the Legendary studios, responsible for the recent Godzilla and King Kong films.
Production will include Anna Sawai (“Pachinko”), Japanese singer Ren Watabe (“461 Lunch Boxes”), Kiersey Clemons (“Lady and the Tramp”), Joe Tippett (“Mare of Easttown”) and Elisa Lasowski (“Versailles “).
Details of their characters were also revealed.
Sawai will play Cate, a former teacher and survivor of G-Day (the day of the Godzilla attack), who travels to Japan to deal with family matters, but carries a secret that haunts her. Watanabe will play Kentaro, a young, creative and intelligent man who seeks answers about himself and his father. Clemons will play May, a mysterious American who has left her country and lives by solving mysteries. Tippett will play Tim, a bureaucratic agent who dreams of going on an adventure. And Lasowski will play a Duvall, an agent who specializes in secret missions.
Created by Chris Black (“Outcast”) and Matt Fraction (“Hawkeye”), the new series does not yet have a preview date.
