First impressions of Thor: Love and Thunder
More than a decade ago, Leandro Hassum began his story as the official voice of Gru, our Despicable One. Now, with the arrival of Minions 2 in theaters, the actor has recalled what his first encounter with this unique voice was like.

“When I found out I was going to voice Steve Carrel, it was very exciting, as I’m a huge fan and he’s a great reference. Then I ran to see what he was doing and was trying to find this voice that had a bit of an accent. It was the challenge of adapting what a brilliant actor like him does, but in Portuguese and in a way that people would embrace it, “he said.” A lot of times we see voiceovers that don’t match and the voice doesn’t fit. , so I tried to get the essence of what Steve Carrel did, which is this accent that you don’t know if he’s German, if he’s from Eastern Europe or if he invented it to be more evil ”.
“When he gets to this young stage, you see that the accent was already with him, but the sweetest thing about a child is the out of tune in pre-adolescence. It’s not with the back foot to do this, it’s a very refined team and everything has been done very well, ”he said.
Among so many films, Hassum also talked about the biggest challenge in giving voice to the character in the latest version.
“The biggest challenge was the music, because everything was done in English, so I had to adapt the right metrics and words in Portuguese. It was the hardest day of dubbing. In Despicable Me 3 it was also a challenge to find Dru’s voice, which was totally different, ”she recalled.
Always a blockbuster, the actor also brought his own insight into why the Minions franchise is so in touch with audiences.
“It’s an animation for the whole family, it makes the uncles, the farts, the fathers, the grandmothers, everyone laugh. I have created a state of mind that I want the person to identify with. Comedy has many bubbles, I chose the bubble of recognition. The Minions, the Cranes, call the whole family. It is an identification film ”.
