The central theme of the trip is the invasions of the Capitol and the headquarters of the Three Powers which occurred in January 2021 and 2023 respectively; Clashes between Tesla and X owner Elon Musk and STF minister Alexandre de Moraes will also be addressed
Led by the January 8 CPI rapporteur, Senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), a delegation of Brazilian parliamentarians will travel to the US Congress in Washington next week to discuss the anti-democratic attacks taking place in both countries. The crisis between the billionaire owner of Tesla and
The Brazilian delegation, involved in the investigation into the attacks on the headquarters of the Three Powers on January 8, 2023 in Brasilia, will meet with Democratic MP Jamie Raskin. The MP was the lead prosecutor in the second case indictment against former US President Donald Trump and member of the committee charged with investigating the invasion of the Capitol, home of the US legislative branch, on January 6, 2021. The act marked the culmination of attacks on democracy in the US and has tried to impede President-elect Joe Biden’s diplomacy.
The commission is made up of Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) and federal deputies Jandira Feghali (PCdoB-RJ), Henrique Vieira (PSOL-RJ), Rafael Brito (MDB-AL) and Rogério Correia (PT-MG).
The senator specifies that the clashes between Musk and Moraes “are the order of the day”, but are not the central point of the trip, organized and paid for by the Vladimir Herzog Institute, which will take place between April 29 and May 2. The billionaire and the magistrate have been at the center of a crisis since the owner of X began criticizing the minister’s judicial decisions which, according to him, violate Brazilian law.
According to the parliamentarian, in a publication on Musk’s network, his criticisms are an affront to Brazilian legislation. He also stated that “coup plotters do not prosper here” because “in Brazil there is democracy and strong institutions”. In the same sense, Congresswoman Jandira wrote, again on X, that the billionaire is an “extremist” and has committed “serious violations of the Brazilian democratic rule of law by inciting non-compliance with judicial decisions”.
Someone let you know @Elon Musk that in Brazil there is democracy and strong institutions, anyone who dares to challenge our legislation is held responsible. Scammers don’t thrive here! This affront is unacceptable, under the false pretext of freedom of expression. We do not accept scammers and fugitives.

Last Wednesday, the 17th, the deputies of the US Republican Party released, for alleged “censorship by the Brazilian government”, a report with 88 orders from the STF and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) which determined the removal of contents or profiles of and other social networks, such as Facebook and Instagram. Many of the decisions were made by Moraes in trials taking place in secret at the STF.
