Back in 2012, “Chronicle” was released, a superhero movie that didn’t have well-known actors in its cast, not even a popular director or story behind the production. Suffice it to say that neither Marvel nor DC supported it.
Even so, and against all odds, the film became one of the most profitable of the genre, although it is currently not recognized or remembered as much as “Avengers” or “Justice League”. We tell you what we’re talking about.

Known as “Power Without Limits” in Spanish, directed by Josh Trank and released in 2012, it is a superhero thriller that deviates from the Marvel and DC franchises. Even though it didn’t have iconic characters like Spider-Man or Batman, it managed to captivate the audience and made 10 times its budget at the box office.
The film follows, through found footage, three Seattle high school students who gain telekinetic powers after an incredible discovery underground. As they learn to control their abilities, their lives spiral out of control and their darker sides emerge.
The ‘Chronicle’ cast includes Dane DeHaan as Andrew Detmer, Alex Russell as Matt Garetty, Michael B. Jordan as Steve Montgomery, among others.
The film was directed by Josh Trank, who co-wrote the screenplay with Max Landis.

“Chronicle” was a modest production, with a budget of about $15 million.
20th Century Fox had low expectations for the project. But the audience far exceeded them. In its first weekend at the US box office, it took in $22 million, which opened up markets to the rest of the world. Ultimately, its total collection reached $126 million, nearly 10 times its budget.
In fact, the first optimistic predictions suggested that it would earn $150 million, although it did not reach that much.
