The country finishes the event as the leader in the overall results ranking
Brazil achieved a strong final result at the Pan American Judo Championships winning a total of 16 medals in the competition. The competition, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, included elite athletes from the Americas and Oceania.
In the individual matches, the Brazilians prevailed and finished the competition as leaders of the overall medal table, with six gold, three silver and six bronze.
This Sunday (20th), the last day of the event, it was Brazil’s turn to win gold in the mixed teams. Olympic champion Rafaela Silva was the last to step onto the mat and presented the medal to her team after defeating Cuba’s Aleanny Carbonell Julia.
– It’s an important moment, given that at the Pan American Games we lost to Cuba and won silver. We had some absences in our team, but we have that. We are Brazil and we fight until the end. I am very happy to win another title for our Brazilian nation – declared the judoka.
Michel Augusto, Larissa Pimenta, Willian Lima, Rafaela Silva, Guilherme Schimidt and Beatriz Souza were the gold medalists in the individual events and earned important points in the Olympic ranking.
