Director was filming in New York when the attack on the World Trade Center took place and ended up included in the film’s script
Held for forty years, Megalopolisnew film by Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather), will feature never-before-seen footage of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, filmed by the filmmaker himself.
The information was revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair: “The script always had an element of an aging Soviet satellite leaving orbit and crashing to Earth, so we needed some scenes of destruction and cleared areas.”said.
“But of course no one could have predicted the events of September 11, 2001 and the World Trade Center tragedy. While we were filming our second unit at the time, we covered some of this heartbreaking footage.”added Coppolawho did not reveal, however, whether the footage is in the final cut of the film.
Megalopolis is written and directed by Coppolaand tells the story of an architect, played by Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), who wants to rebuild New York City in a utopian way after a devastating disaster.
The idea for the film emerged in the 1980s, but Coppolla was unable to obtain financing to produce the film at the time. So that he could get it off the ground, the filmmaker even sold some of his properties and finally got around $100 million to make it.
In addition to Adam Driver, Megalopolis still has Giancarlo Esposito (Kaleidoscope) Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus), Nathalie Emmanuel (Fast & Furious 10), Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man), Shia Labeouf (The Peanut Butter Falcon), Jason Schwartzman (Asteroid City),Laurence fishburne (John Wick 4: Baba Yaga), Jon Voight (Ray Donovan) It is Forest Whitaker (The White House butler).
The film will premiere at this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place between May 14th and 25th, but there is still no date for its release in cinemas.
