The post-credits scene of ‘The Umbrella Academy 3’ explained, where is Ben going?

That place looks familiar…

Spoilers for the third season of ‘The Umbrella Academy’.

As is tradition, ‘The Umbrella Academy’ ends with another shocking third season cliffhangerone that changes everything you thought you knew about this series, again.

So, before we go any further, this is the next and final spoiler warning. Keep reading after you’ve seen the tenth episode, because the events of those last scenes also affect the short but sweet post-credits scene that lurks at the end…

In the season three finale, Allison (sort of) saves everyone by killing the Sparrow version of Reginald, who turned out to be even worse than the father they grew up with. However, the machine hides in the Hotel oblivion Obsidian is still working, so Allison decides to press a button that asks “don’t press me”.

At that moment, everything fades and then we cut to Allison, who is suddenly reunited with her missing son and husband. She Is she dead she? It is very possible, because the series takes us to an elevator where everyone else leaves without her.

Nevertheless, Luther is back and normal, as are the rest of the Umbrellas, who seem to have lost their powers.. With this revelation, everyone decides to leave the courtyard and start a new life with no crazy apocalypses to contend with.

Next, we see an urban landscape built by Reginald Hargreeves, who now contemplates a world remade in his image and likeness Alongside his newly resurrected wife, no less.

What all of this means for our favorite characters in the upcoming season remains to be seen, but the one we are most worried about right now is Ben because he is the protagonist of the post-credits scene of the third season.

Ben left with the phrase “I’m out bitchesWhich is extremely like Ben, to be honest. All season long, this Sparrow version of the character has been a complete mess and is pretty selfish.

But in the briefest post-credits scene, this scruffy version of Ben suddenly appears quite dapper in a business suit and respectable glasses.. The South Korean subway you are in is also very familiar. And that’s because it’s the same one in which the season started.

Set in Seoul on October 1, 1989, the opening revealed Ben’s birth in this subway and how Reginald Hargreeves ended up adopting him in this alternate reality of Sparrow. We know that the post-credits scene is also set in Seoul, because a loudspeaker announces: “this train is heading to Yeouido station”, located on lines 5 and 9 of the Seoul subway.

In the real world, Yeouido is a large island in Seoul’s Han River. But why would Ben want to visit her? And why is it so important for the future of the series? Okay, Yeouido is the main financial district of Seoul and, given Ben’s attire, he could very well be working in some kind of investment banking. Or maybe he’s just dressed up for some kind of gathering?

Given that Reginald now runs countless companies in this new timeline, don’t be surprised if Ben ends up working for him, or even against him by infiltrating his inner circle.

With all this in mind, it’s safe to assume that this post-credits scene is set in the present and not in 1989, like the first subway scene – though it’s hard to tell right now if the Umbrellas and the Sparrows jumped to another place in time as they made the journey to this new reality.

Also, are we sure this “Ben” is the Ben Sparrow from season three? Perhaps this timeline will have a new Ben, one who is different from both the original ghost version of his character and the new one.

The sheepish smile he shares before the credits roll again suggests he might have something to hide, or maybe he’s just content with his life, not knowing the umbrella-shaped shitstorm that’s about to hit his world in the fourth season.

At this point, let’s point out that the word “Yeouido” means “you can have it”, or “useless” in English (at least according to the Wiki). So maybe this could be related to the idea that Ben, and the other Umbrellas, have no powers now in this new timeline..

The only other clue we have to finding out all of this lies in the QR code that is not-so-subtly hidden on the subway wall next to Ben. Before the release of the third season, this simply took us back to the page of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ in the catalog of Netflix series but, once it was available for free, leads us to a cheeky “easter egg” for tattoo fans.

It appears that (at least virtually) Pogo’s tattoo shop is open to the public. The link sends you to her parlor, with minimalist tattoo designs (if you’re someone who can’t resist a little ink from your favorite series).

Options currently include a hotel bell; a sparrow and an umbrella (depending on which team you want to be on); a violin (in honor of Viktor’s skills); a moon (in honor of Luther’s time up there); a time traveling briefcase (time traveling not included) and kraken arms similar to the ones Ben drops from his chest.

All quite clever and time will tell if this reveals any other secrets later. Failing that, let’s all visit Yeouido in real life and look for clues on the ground. Because ‘The Umbrella Academy’ is deliberately giving us very little beyond these ten seconds of teasing.

Which, to be fair, is very typical of this wacky and lovable series.
