“Avatar 2”: Sigourney Weaver returns in an entirely new role

The return of Sigourney Weaver in “Avatar: The Way of Water” was already confirmed, but what was not known was that she would experience a totally new and surprising character.

From the confirmation of the actress in “Avatar: The Path of Water” there was already a huge doubt about what would happen to make the return of Weaver possible, after all her character, Dr. Grace Augustine, died in “Avatar “of 2009. The speculation was about how a return of Augustine would be possible. Maybe she only appeared in flashbacks? A twin was also considered.

Hand! Now the magazine empire revealed that veteran Sigourney Weaver will actually play an entirely new character: Kiri, a teenage Na’vi who is also the adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri.

In addition to the reveal, Empire also released the first images of Weaver’s character, Kiri, in an exclusive photo and new cover (see below). Yesterday the magazine unveiled the character of Kate Winslet.

The 72-year-old actress, who worked with James Cameron on the first “Avatar” and also in 1986 on “Aliens,” spoke to the magazine about the challenge of playing a much younger character. “I think we all remember well how she felt as a teenager,” said Weaver. “Of course I remember. I was 1.78m or 1.80m tall when I was 11 years old. I strongly felt that Kiri was going to feel weird most of the time. She is looking for what he is she is. I was thrilled to receive this challenge from [James Cameron]”.

On the other hand, James Cameron himself highlighted the dimension of this challenge. “As an acting challenge, it’s great,” he said. “We’re going to have an actress in her sixties playing a character [décadas mais jovem do que] his biological age. Sig thought it was a lot of fun.

To play the role in “Avatar: The Way to Water,” Sigourney Weaver lived with a group of teenage girls to harness the youthful energy required by the character. “Sigourney just got younger,” Cameron recalled. “She looked younger, had more energy and never left Kiri during our entire recording period. She had a sparkle on her face, a lightness of step and a funny spirit ”.

“Avatar: Water Way” will be released in theaters on December 15 this year.
