Memorable series, but completely improvised during filming! In an audio commentary offered on the DVD, director Spike Jones revealed that the rest of those present on the set that day were only hired to appear in the background of the scene. But one of them – a drunk – decided to stand out and threw a can at John Malkovich’s head; Therefore, the cry of pain that we hear in the film is not played out, but rather spontaneous.
The extra for this unconscious gesture was not only not released from filming, but also rewarded! The scene was saved in the final editing of the film, so the latter was paid more, the standard price of the extra with the string is much higher than the extra salary without the dialogue.
