‘Baby reindeer’: The deleted scene that explains what happened to Teri after she broke up with Donny in the series

The Netflix series ‘Baby Reindeer’ has captivated audiences with its intense plot about harassment, sexual abuse and mental health.

Based on the experience of Richard Gaad (who actually plays the main character), the story follows Donny, a comedian with a troubled past, and Teri, a transgender therapist played by the talented Nava Mau. Although the relationship between Donnie and Terri is closed in the fiction, there was a deleted scene that sheds more light on the fate of this couple.

In the final moments of the series we see Teri hugging a man on the street, enjoying that simple gesture of affection that Donny never dared to give her. After that, he doesn’t look for her anymore.

What was not shown in the series is the sequence where Teri leaves him a voicemail, five months after their breakup.

Actress Nava Mau assured in an interview with ‘GQ’ that this was a perfect closure, after it was understood that Teri had moved on, that she ended up on good terms with Donny and that their split “was for the best”.

While it’s not revealed what the caller said, Terry may have contacted him when Donnie decided to tell the story of his tragic past on stage, to offer some words of support.

Why do Donnie and Terri end up in the ‘Baby Reindeer’ series?

Donnie and Terri’s relationship does not conventionally end in the series. Terri finds a new love, while Donnie ends his relationship with Martha, the woman who molested him. The ambiguity of the protagonist’s final scene in the bar leaves room for interpretation, but for Nava Mau, the characters of Donnie and Terri wrap up their love story well.

The Mexican actress says she’s happy that Teri has a happy ending, as many times members of the trans community don’t, especially in fiction.

Although the deleted scene didn’t make it into the final version of “Reindeer Baby,” it gives us a glimpse of what could have been for Donny and Teri after their breakup. The series continues to gain relevance thanks to the fact that it is a reference to how difficult certain topics like bullying and mental health are and how to deal with them on screen.
