Later in his review, Stephen King returns to the monologue at the end of episode 6 in these terms: “The juxtaposition between Donnie’s self-loathing and his self-esteem in this monologue makes this sixth episode one of the best I’ve seen on television (or even in the movies).”

The best gift My Little Reindeer can give us is to let us understand why it took Donnie so long to talk. Not because Martha is a woman, not because she is overweight. But because in his heart, Don believes that he deserves everything that happens to him. We feel sympathy for him rather than impatience, and we also feel sympathy for Martha. I wouldn’t offer him a cup of tea though.
