Brazilian Cassio Rippel did not make it to the final of the three-place 50m rifle competition at the Shooting World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan. He scored 575 points and was in 61st place in the qualifiers, held in the early hours of this Wednesday (08). Only the top eight finishers advanced to the medal.
The men’s 50m three-position air rifle qualifier featured 65 athletes at this stage of the World Cup. They each performed two sets of ten shots in the kneeling, lying and standing positions. Cassio Rippel scored 194 points kneeling, 198 points lying and 183 points standing, for a total of 575 points.
Eighth and last place in the final was the Frenchman Lucas Kryzs, with 590 points. The first place in the qualifiers was China’s Du Linshu, with 594 points. The final, which will take place on Thursday (09), will feature two Chinese, a Hungarian, an Australian, a Czech, a French, a Finn and a Croatian.
From ParanĂ¡ in Ponta Grossa, Cassio Rippel is 45 years old and won a gold medal at the Toronto-2015 Pan American Games. He will not be present at Paris-2024, as Brazil has only secured an Olympic place in the men’s 10m air pistol, women’s skeet and women’s 50m three-position air rifle.
