Some live sports programming and ESPN programs will begin appearing on Disney+ later this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced during an earnings call with investors. According to the director, ESPN+ subscribers will also have access to content through the new streaming block, so subscribers will have everything in one application.
Later this year, we’ll add an ESPN block to Disney+, giving all U.S. subscribers access to select live games and studio programming within the Disney+ app. We see this as a first step in bringing ESPN to Disney+ viewers as we prepare to launch our enhanced standalone ESPN streaming service in fall 2025.

Despite the announcement, however, Iger did not provide details on which games he will make available for streaming (or when exactly), but he made it clear that he will bring a “modest” amount of ESPN programming.
Investing heavily in the sports market, it is worth mentioning that Disney is also working with Fox Sports and Warner Bros. Discovery to launch another streaming service dedicated to the sector. The platform, expected later this year, will include games from the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA.
Disney+ and Hulu reported a profitable first quarter
Also during the earnings call, Disney finally celebrated that its streaming services have started making profits in the US and Canadian markets. A report on the company’s earnings from Disney+ and Hulu revealed that both services earned a combined $47 million last quarter, marking the first time the company reached that level in four and a half years since their launch.
