‘The Asunta case’: the judge who handled the case in real life criticizes the Netflix series

José Antonio Vázquez Taín, the judge who conducted the investigation of the Asunta case in real life, spoke exclusively to the Spanish show “Vamos a ver” about the dramatization.

“I’ve only seen one episode and I’m not going to watch it again,” he said.

According to him, the series missed an opportunity to change the focus of this type of narrative that is common in “true crime” series: he commented that he has seen how many “movies about drug dealers” have been made and “not about drug addicts dying or ” police who catch them”.

In the same vein, he expressed regret that the “Asunta case” gave more weight to the parents than to the murdered girl, which, in his opinion, would be a way to “give an honor or a small gesture of affection to the girl . .” , to the victim”.

“I’m very sorry. Because I’m used to that aspect, but it’s not fair. Because she was a very special, wonderful girl and I think it’s time to do a drama where we really value how two normal people – not that they’re degenerate , mentally ill or animals, but that they are human beings like everyone else – he can – ruining a girl’s brilliant life because of a lack of empathy and depriving her of her adolescence, her life and all the future she had before her,” said the judge who conducted the investigation into the real Asunta case.

Who is the judge who handled the Asunta case in real life?

In the Netflix series, Judge Malvar is in charge of handling the case, but, in real life, the name of the judge in charge of the investigation is José Antonio Vázquez Taín.

Regarding his portrait in “The Asunta Affair”, Vázquez Taín pointed out that Javier Gutiérrez, the actor who plays him in the dramatization, is “a great actor and a great man” whom he has “nothing to criticize”: “On the contrary . . I think he’s tried his best to try to leave me in the best place, but it hasn’t been achieved.”
